Romans 1:16 says...the gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes...

This gospel was given by revelation and written down in the Bible.
Therefore, Paul is scrupulous about it not being altered or perverted.
If the gospel is perverted people cannot be saved.
No wonder both the gospel and the Bible come under attack!
Without them, man is lost.
Paul says in his letter to the Galatians:

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel - which is reall no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! (Gal 1:6-9)

Paul is deeply concerned because he knows what is at stake.
In v12 he says: I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by the revelation from Jesus Christ.

This is what Paul contended for, and what believers should continued to fight for throughout church history; to preserve the purity of the gospel so that it should continue to be God's power for the salvation of everyone who believes.

The devil hates the gospel. He hates revelation, he hates the Bible and he hates Jesus. This is why he shoots 'fiery darts' at everything God has said. No wonder the first thing the Bible says about him is that he sows doubt on God's word: Did God really say...? (Gen 3:1). and he has continued his scheme ever since.

Therefore it is crucial that we accept the Bible's testimony and view of itself. If we did not have God's written revelation of Himself in the Scriptures, men and women would never be saved, and the devil knows it.
